Surgery and Anesthesia

At Surf Paws we know that having a pet undergo a surgical procedure can be overwhelming. That is why we offer patient tailored anesthesia, pre-anesthetic blood screenings, coagulation profiles, and post operative pain management. Our clinic offers a wide variety of soft tissue surgeries from spaying and neutering to exploratory abdominal surgeries. Orthopedic procedures are referred to veterinary specialist on the island.

Blood Work and Disease Screening

Our in-house laboratory equipment allows our veterinarians to learn information regarding your pet’s health quickly for a timely diagnosis. Diseases of the kidneys, liver, pancreas, as well as anemias, platelet counts and more can all be tested for and monitored right in our clinic. Further in-house testing includes heartworm disease, Giardia, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Parvovirus, Fecal parasite exams, Feline leukemia and FIV. Commercial veterinary laboratories are utilized for specialized diagnostics such as histopathology and consultations.

Stem Cell Therapy

Stem cells are powerful healing cells in your body that can become other types of cells. There are many adult stem cells in fat tissue, however they are asleep. The procedure we use for stem cell therapy allows us to isolate stem cells from an animal’s own fat tissue, wake them up, and reinject them directly into damaged areas. For example, in the case of arthritis, stem cells become new cartilage cells, thus reducing pain and increasing mobility.

Heartworm, Flea and Tick

Preventives kill the heartworm larvae before they have a chance to grow and mature into adult heartworms. A number of heartworm preventives are available to pet owners today. Some heartworm preventives contain additional ingredients that will control other parasites, such as roundworms or hookworms. A monthly preventive should be given to all pets. Remember that mosquitoes can get indoors, so even though your pet may not go outside, he is still susceptible.

Digital Radiology and Ultrasound

Surf Paws uses state-of-the-art digital X-ray technology when diagnosing your pet. Digital X-rays are the new standard of care for top veterinary practices. Digital images are captured within seconds and are stored in each patient’s computerized medical record.

The hospital is also equipped with ultrasound capabilities for non-invasive screening. Ultrasound is a painless and non-invasive imaging technique used to look at your pet’s internal organs. We can also use ultrasound to guide biopsy sampling, stem cell injection and catheter placement.
